Islands are special places. We love ours and we hope you enjoy the majestic, wild, unspoiled beauty of Waupoos Island as much as we do.

We take some special steps to care for our island. We try to use NO SINGLE USE PLASTICS INCLUDING WATER BOTTLES. Hey, no one’s perfect. But we try, and we ask that you do too. Mama E is counting on us. Any recycling goes out to the mainland. We have a compost pile at the cottage and unpainted papergoods can go in the fire pit.

We have NO TV and NO INTERNET at the cottage. Yup. You got it. No Wi-fi. No Netflix. Cell service for all providers is good-to-excellent and you can hot-spot if you really need a fix. The marina (our mainland parking spot) also has wi-fi. There are books, board-games, magazines and drawing supplies for your enjoyment, not to mention a canoe, kayaks, paddleboards, badminton, volleyball. Painting rocks seems to be a favourite pass-time based on what makes it back into the cottage!

If you have medical concerns, please review whether you feel a remote island getaway is appropriate for your situation. The nearest emergency department is in Picton, a 40 minute drive from the marina. From the cottage to the marina it takes 30 – 60 minutes depending on boating conditions. In other words, it might take a while to get help if required. This is the nature of a remote vacation and a risk you need to be comfortable with.

Island life also means that our plans are always at the mercy of Mother Nature. We will help you to have the absolute best, most relaxed week away from it all that we can provide. We are experienced boaters and can manage some pretty rough weather. However, we will always put safety first. This sometimes means that boating needs to be delayed if there is wind, waves or lightening. There is a large shelter at the marina with picnic tables and barbeques if we need to wait out some weather. The nature of boating, being on the water and respecting that sometimes we need to slow down has been a good life lesson for us. If we think weather is going to be a problem and you are worried about timing; we will be in frequent communication with you to come up with the best possible plan for you travels.
